Hum Your Way into Calming Your Nerves!
We can use sound in many ways to regulate our nervous system. There are sound baths that use vibratory instruments such as crystal bowls, gongs or other instruments and vibrational therapy, which uses Tibetan bowls or other instruments directly near or on the body. Another way to use sound to regulate our nervous system is by utilizing our own voice! Watch Jennifer, our certified vibrational therapist demonstrate a way to use "self-created sound" for a technique to reduce stress.
Our vagus nerve, the main nerve that goes from the brain past the neck, chest and abdomen is activated by vibration and it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. The result is calmness. According to studies in biotechnology, vocal toning can emit feelings such as “meditative," "calm," and "relaxed” in a person.
Tip: Put your left hand over your heart, and then put your right hand on top of your left. Think of something calming, relaxing or think of someone you love or how you are a loving person. Take a deep breath in and hum an “AH” sound out. Repeat several times to reduce stress.
