Be the Calm in the Storm

Life can sure toss us about. People and situations may be out of our control. We then may react and become emotionally out of control. The emotions will take us as assuredly as a hurricane takes a city.

But the good news is that every storm has a calm and still center.

When we find ourselves in a storm of emotion, we can also know that we also have a calm center. We access this calmness through the breath.

When we breathe and feel our breath, we calm our nervous systems and clear our minds. We can notice that inside ourselves there is peace and calm, despite what storms are happening all around us.

Tip: Take in a slow deep breath all the way to the bottom of your lungs. Fill up your lungs from top to bottom as if you are filling up a glass of water. Then release the breath slow and steady from the bottom to the top. Concentrate on the breath and watch the tension in the body begin to release. Repeat until you start feeling more grounded and stable.
