Reduce Holiday Stress With These Self-Care Tips!

Holidays can be a lot of fun for many people. Gifts and gatherings can be great. However, when we are going through a hard time, it can make this time of year seem overwhelming. If you are going through something like grief, a broken heart, financial problems, or if you don’t have family around you (or maybe you do, but is not the healthiest of situations), it can be very stressful. And, expectations can make it even more so. There could be a lot of pressure to have a “merry Christmas” or a “happy holiday” when we are just not feeling good! Check out what this psychology article has to say about holiday stress.

The holidays are upon us whether we are ready or not. I encourage you to care for yourself.

Tip: This time of year is a time where we can go inward to explore what we are truly feeling. If feelings of loneliness, sadness, grief, or anger are arising, it is important to acknowledge it and feel whatever we are feeling. The only way out, is through. Breathe through whatever you are feeling. Start new traditions. Use light therapy to brighten up your space. Take a walk and breathe in the crisp air. Nature is healing and exercise increases endorphins. Maybe offer help to someone else and it may help lift your mood. Maybe open up about your feelings to others - you don’t have to go through everything alone. Call or text 988 if you feel really down or suicidal.
